About Us

The Carruthers Law Firm was formed in 1998, and Mr. Paul Matthew Carruthers, Jr. (Matt) has a Master’s degree in Business and a Law degree from the University of Kentucky, where he excelled. He began his law career working at a large law firm where he was instrumental in successfully forming their immigration department.  He has been serving the Upstate for over 30 years. With experience in state and federal courts, he has led his law firm by being upfront with his clients and fighting for their legal rights. After leaving that firm, he started what is now The Carruthers Law Firm. He has 2 qualified legal assistants, one of whom speaks fluent Spanish and the other speaks fluent Spanish and French.

The firm has been successful handling cases for clients that have immigration issues and face deportation. He has had clients released from immigration detention and go on to win their cases by receiving legal status. He has won asylum cases in Charlotte, North Carolina, Chicago, Illinois, and Buffalo, New York. He has been able to provide many families with the legal status they need to thrive in America.

The firm has also been successful in representing clients that face criminal charges. Mr. Carruthers has been able to secure bonds to release the defendant from detention, he has been able to obtain pardons for clients with criminal record that wish to have those records erased. Mr. Carruthers goes into every case to fight for his client’s rights and to obtain a just verdict or a favorable plea bargain.

In addition to immigration and criminal law, Mr. Carruthers understands the burdens that one faces when they are hurt on the job. These burdens can impact their entire family. He knows the workers’ compensation system well and has won cases over the years that bring well needed compensation to his clients.

Mr. Carruthers’ motto is to serve the client first and make sure that the client is given upfront, honest, and sincere advice and that their legal rights are never compromised.
